Garbage Pail Kids cards sparked controversy among parents, teachers, and public opinion leaders due to questions regarding their moral and educational implications. However, local artistic interpretations of these products emerged including spin-offs and alternative trading cards adjusted to values of Religious Zionist and ultra-Orthodox communities as a counter to the trend.
