Bouena Sarfatty: Partisan & Poet in Salonika

The conditions during the Nazi conquest of Salonika, now Thessaloniki, led to the imprisonment of Bouena Sarfatty, a devoted member of the Sephardi community. She miraculously managed to join the Greek partisans, saved Jewish children and eventually moved to Montreal. While there, she composed Ladino poems (coplas) which documented the trials and tribulations of her brethren and their fate.
