Elijah the Prophet was usually unseen when present or seen by a select few. However, his image was included in Jewish visual art from the late Middle Ages, as well as special ritual objects associated with his figure. In this session we will discuss Elijah’s (in)visibility and the material culture of signaling his presence and absence simultaneously.
