Episode 10 - Tisha b’Av: Fire in Jerusalem
An exquisitely crafted glass jug from the Second Temple period, now melted and broken, testifies to cataclysmic destruction – and also to the splendor of the period that preceded it. To mark Tisha b’Av, we look at some of these silent witnesses – 2,000-year-old archaeological finds, a Baroque master painting, Jewish ritual objects shrouded in black – and explore the day’s significance over the centuries.
Point of View is a partnership between Beit Avi Chai and the Israel Museum. Each episode presents a Jewish holiday theme through the eyes of objet d’art from the Israel Museum’s collection.
