A reading of the short story “Twofold” (Pi Shnayim), which takes place on Yom Kippur in Jerusalem. Through a series of dreams, Agnon’s narrator returns to his youth spent in his father’s small synagogue in their Galician hometown of Buczacz. This is one of his central stories dealing with the theme of Yom Kippur and the challenges of correction and repentance, through the character of the narrator who conveys his anxiety as his soul hangs in the balance on the Day of Judgment.
