Days of Awe

The Jewish holidays occupy a central place in the writings of S.Y. Agnon. Many of his stories take place during festive days, and their descriptions reflect the lives of his characters, who oscillate between tradition and modernity, and the sacred and the mundane. Among his best loved books, “The Days of Awe” (Yamim Noraim) stands out in particular, containing classical sources and stories for the Ten Days of Repentance. This is one of Agnon’s major and most ambitious projects, a treasure trove of Jewish wisdom for reflection and renewal during the High Holidays.
