Parashat Naso
May 21, 2021
Prof. Avigdor Shinan in a meeting with Galit Bennett-Dahan, curator of Classical Archeology
This Shabbat we read Parashat Naso, in which the question of how a man or a woman can undertake a vow of asceticism is also discussed. The parsha also deals with the duties that are imposed on those who choose this way of life.
In this meeting we will examine the attitude of Judaism towards asceticism, compared to its more complex attitude towards drinking wine. We will go on to talk about symposia in the Greek world, meet the gods of wine, and examine vessels that were used for a feast in ancient Greece.
Venue: Archeology / Classical Greek Gallery
