Israeli Women Writing Midrash

Tamar Biala

The remarkably rich world of Midrash, the product of centuries of Jewish creativity, has been created entirely by men. Recent years have seen new midrashim written by learned, committed and creative women. Many have appeared in the Hebrew and English editions of the collection called Dirshuni. These writings explore the riches of Jewish life, and now are joined by midrashim by various women grappling with the experience of living through October 7 and its aftermath.

This 4-part series will include an introduction to the new world of women’s Midrash and its relationship to classical Midrash; an exploration of women’s midrashim on various topics, including current midrashim that will help orient us in the run-up to the coming new year
